Near West police blotter: May 20

The following items were taken from La Grange, Oak Park and River Forest police reports.

La Grange

•A suspicious person was reported following a group of girls and making them uncomfortable May 17 near the La Grange Public Library, 10 W. Cossitt Ave. Police searched the area, but no suspects were found.

•A white van pulled up and stopped briefly in front of two children sitting on the front stairs of a home in the 200 block of South Edgewood Avenue on May 18.

•Eggs were thrown at a house in the 200 block of South Ashland Avenue on May 18.

•Several homeless people were quarreling loudly May 18 near the train station, 25 W. Burlington Ave. Police intervened, and all subjects were sent away from the station.

•A noise complaint was reported May 18 near Cossitt Avenue and Madison Street where a group of teens was reportedly swearing.

•A hit-and-run vehicle accident occurred in the 300 block of South Gilbert Avenue on May 18. No injuries were reported.

•Two pit bulls were reported off leash in the 700 block of East Maple Avenue on May 19. Officers were unable to locate the dogs.

•A woman attempted to jump out of a vehicle during a quarrel near Ogden and Washington avenues May 19. No injuries were reported.

•Several suspicious bags were reported seen on the first floor of a parking garage at 80 S. Sixth Ave. on May 19. An officer determined that the bags belonged to a male planning to ask his girlfriend to prom by decorating her car.

•A man was found sleeping on a bench near Hillgrove Avenue and La Grange Road on May 19.

•A woman reported receiving threatening emails from her landlord in the 20 block of West Harris Avenue on May 19.

•An iPod and money clip were stolen from a vehicle parked in the 700 block of La Grange Road on May 20.

•A woman reported domestic trouble with her boyfriend, who had been drinking, in the 900 block of South Eighth Avenue on May 20.

Oak Park

•Someone used black spray paint to write derogatory comments about a resident's sexual orientation on the driveway of a home and a vehicle on the 300 block of Wesley Avenue between 11 p.m. May 8 and 6 a.m. May 9.

•A 16-year-old Hillside boy was arrested May 9 on the 100 block of Madison Street for criminal sexual abuse involving a 15-year-old River Forest resident. He was released to his father.

•Two men approached an Oak Park resident on the 800 block of South Oak Park Avenue about 7:45 a.m. May 9 and demanded the victim's wallet. The victim complied. The loss was $590. The first man was 30 or 40, of medium build, bald, wore a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans and was carrying a black backpack with white lettering. The second man was 30 to 40, medium build and was wearing dark clothing.

•A 28-year-old Chicago man was arrested after police said he entered a business on the 500 block of Lake Street about 11:02 p.m. May 12, displayed a black handgun and removed cash from the register. He was charged with aggravated robbery.
