Naperville has promoted one of its own to deputy police chief.
Brian Cunningham, commander of investigations, will become the Naperville Police Department's deputy chief for the Investigations Division.
Police Chief Robert Marshall said in a news release the appointment is part of his plan to restructure the department.
"Brian Cunningham is definitely the right person for the job and will take a key role in moving the department forward," he said in a news release.
Cunningham joined the Naperville Police Department in 1986 as a patrol officer and served in a variety of roles before becoming investigations commander in August 2012. He also is founder and president of the Illinois Homicide Investigators Association and part of the Illinois Crisis Negotiations Association.
