Mount Carmel's Domer down to 4; Garrett visits Florida

Mount Carmel senior running back Matt Domer has narrowed his list of favorites to four schools — Illinois, Indiana, Kansas and Syracuse — and hopes to make his choice soon.

"I'm planning to get out and visit all four schools one last time this summer, then I'm going to make my decision," said Domer, who will visit Illinois on July 1-2.

Garrett visits Florida: Plainfield South senior linebacker Clifton Garrett participated in the IMG National 7-on-7 championship as part of the Core 6 Athletes-sponsored team in Florida over the weekend. Garrett also visited Florida on his way to IMG Academy.

"The visit went really good," Garrett said. "I talk with head Coach (Will) Muschamp all the time and we have a good relationship. It was good to finally meet all of the coaches at Florida in person. I loved it down there and they play really fast and they win championships."

Garrett's favorites include Florida, LSU, Mississippi, Tennessee and USC. He doesn't expect to announce his decision until after he takes the five official visits allowed under NCAA rules.

Family matters: Sycamore senior Ben Niemann orally committed to Northern Illinois last fall. But the recruiting picture has become a bit more complicated for Niemann, son of Huskies defensive coordinator Jay Niemann, since he added offers from Eastern Michigan, Illinois State and, most recently, Iowa.

"I camped at Iowa on Wednesday and I worked out at outside linebacker and they offered me a scholarship," Ben Niemann said. "I also went back for a visit this past Friday and I really had a good meeting with the Iowa coaches. It's a great school and they have amazing facilities and they have a lot to offer on and off the field."

What's Niemann's next move?

"It's a different situation for myself and my family, no question," he said. "I'm going to sit down and talk to my family. I'm still committed to NIU, and you don't get the chance to play for your dad very often."

Slayton ready for visits soon: One of the spring's hottest recruits was Crete-Monee senior defensive end Chris Slayton, who has yet to make any spring or summer campus visits.

"I've been really just focused on my team and our team camp so far," Slayton said. "Once we get a break soon I'm going to get out and visit some schools. I want to get back out to Michigan State, along with seeing Illinois, Missouri and maybe Wisconsin."

Slayton has offers from Ball State, Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Miami (Fla), Missouri, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Syracuse, Toledo, Wisconsin and Western Michigan.

Extra points: De La Salle senior offensive tackle Jamarco Jones will announce his college choice between Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State at 1 p.m. Thursday at the high school. ... Elk Grove senior outside linebacker Mike Bishoff orally committed to Western Illinois. ... Lincoln-Way North senior Julian Hylton added his first BCS offer last weekend from Illinois. Hylton, who played running back in 2012, was offered as a defensive back. "I really wanted this one (offer from Illinois) and it feels great," Hylton said. "I didn't commit, but I really like Illinois and they are right up there."
