Plainfield South linebacker Clifton Garrett has 28 scholarship offers but isn't in a hurry to make a decision.
"I'm really not planning to visit anywhere this summer," Garrett said. "My focus will be on summer school and then working with my team this summer in camp. I really want to make up a couple of grades this summer from my freshman year and I want to be there for my team, so I'm pretty much staying close to home and my recruiting will be on hold this summer."
Garrett plans to take some official visits during the fall — for a specific reason.

"I really want to see schools in person during the season," he said. "All I've ever heard about was how crazy the game-day atmosphere is at these schools, and that's something I've never experienced. Those visits will come most likely toward the end of the season for me."
"I'm really comfortable with the SEC schools and a few others, and those are the schools I'm going to look at the hardest," Garrett said. "I haven't set up any dates just yet, but I'll do that pretty soon."
Garrett, along with Crete-Monee junior linebacker Nyles Morgan, East St. Louis sophomore defensive end Terry Beckner Jr., Chatham Glenwood junior tight end Daniel Helm (Tennessee), O'Fallon junior defensive end Dewayne Hendrix and Benet sophomore quarterback Jack Beneventi will participate in the Rivals.com Rivals Challenge on June 7-9 at Soldier Field.
Speaking of Beneventi: The standout signal-caller added recent offers from Iowa and Louisville and is planning an extensive summer camp tour.
"I'm planning to camp this summer at Georgia, Vanderbilt, Duke, USC and Louisville," Beneventi said. "I might also make a few visits, but I haven't set any of those yet and I still don't know which schools I'll visit. I want to get to see schools in person and really get a better idea about the schools and the coaches."
Dream offer: Downers Grove South freshman offensive tackle Erik Swenson added what his father called an offer from a "dream school" last week from Michigan.
"Erik is very excited," Swen Swenson said. "Michigan has been his dream school for a long time now. His room is in Michigan colors and he has Michigan Fat Heads on the walls. He had a huge smile on his face after he got off the phone ... and I could tell just by his reaction that Michigan offered him."
Swenson will camp this summer at Michigan, Illinois, Northwestern and Notre Dame. Swenson has offers from Illinois, Michigan, Ohio State and Notre Dame.
Mister deadline: St. Rita junior Tommy Mister is on track to make a college choice in late June.
"My dad still wants me to wait until signing day, but I just feel like I want to end this real soon," Mister said. "Recruiting has been fun, but it also can get annoying."
Mister said Iowa State is his favorite, followed by Indiana and Michigan State.
"Iowa State just blew me away on my visit and my mom likes coach (Paul) Rhoades and the Cyclones," Mister said. "Indiana is starting to really appeal to me, and I get along great with running backs coach Deland McCullough. Michigan State is another big-time school that has a lot to offer."
