Paratriathlete ready to compete
Mary Kate Callahan, an 18-year-old native of La Grange, will compete in the South Beach Triathlon in Florida on Sunday.
Despite having her lower body and legs paralyzed due to a virus when she was a baby, Callahan has competed in more than 30 triathlons as a paratriathlete. She has enjoyed some success at it, competing in the World Championships in New Zealand three years ago.
She is a freshman at the University of Arizona and races on a club team at school. She swims, handcyles and races in a wheelchair in the triathlons.
