A 30-year-old Skokie man died following injuries he sustained from being hit by a car Sunday evening while crossing Dempster Street in Skokie, authorities said.

Police responded to the crash around 9 p.m. in the 3400 block of Dempster Street, according to a Skokie police news release.

The pedestrian, identified by police as David Mulder, was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, police said, where he was later pronounced dead.

An 18-year-old male was behind the wheel of a 2008 Mazda traveling west in the curb lane of Dempster Street when he hit Mulder, who police said had been crossing the street at the time.

Skokie authorities released few other details about the crash, which they said is still under investigation with assistance from the North Regional Task Force Major Crash Assistance Team.

No charges have been filed while the investigation is pending, police said.
