The upcoming chefs' auction in Orland Park is an opportunity to sample fare from a dozen restaurants under one roof, win a special prize and raise money for charity.
The Village of Orland Park is partnering with the American Cancer Society to present the 14th annual Chefs' Auction to Benefit Breast Cancer Research. The Mardi Gras-style event is scheduled from 6-10 p.m. Feb. 20 at Orland Chateau, 14500 S. LaGrange Road in Orland Park.
Mimi's Café, Jenny's Steak House, Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant, Flavor Restaurant, Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery, Robert Morris Culinary School, Bakers Square and other area restaurants will serve signature dishes, with wine and ales also on the menu.
"Expect different types of food from local establishments, some great raffle prizes and a really fun bidding war," said Caroline Gaba, event manager for Cooper's Hawk.
The restaurant, which has participated in the chefs' auction the past five years, will serve Over the Border egg rolls and jambalaya, a house favorite. Winemaker Rob Warren will select wine pairings.
Each participating restaurant creates a package for the live auction, which is conducted by Orland Park Mayor Dan McLaughlin.
"Restaurants donate all of their food and staff and also an auction package from their establishment to be bid upon," said Joseph La Margo, Orland Park public information officer and deputy village clerk. "There are two to four artists who paint a picture depicting the ambiance of some of the participating restaurants. These original works of art are included in that restaurant's auction package."
The auction, which typically draws 300 guests, also will include music and a raffle. Tickets are $55, $90 per couple or $600 for a table of 10.
Tickets are available at the Recreation Center, 14650 S. Ravinia Ave., and the Village Sportsplex, 11351 W. 159th St.
All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Research. To date, the event has raised about $200,000, La Margo said.
