At a news conference in 2009, Mayor Richard Daley battled with his inner Mayor Chucky.
That's the terrifying mayoral persona that often reveals itself when he's angry. Daley's hair perspires and curls up in frightful wings over his ears. His face gets red, and the jaw juts forward, just like the evil Chucky doll in the movies.
"I don't get mad," Daley told reporters. "Don't say I'm mad or I'm upset. You'll say that in your articles. I know you will. Are there any other questions? You do that, you know. You want to get the mayor impatient and mad and face like John (Kass), all red up."
All red up?
He knows my face isn't red. It's olive. I'm Greek. But I started to blush.
And he kept mentioning me:
"John, my statement speaks for itself. I'm glad you finally showed up to one of my press conferences."
And "I've answered a lot of questions, John. This is the first press conference you've attended in a couple years."
His time estimate wasn't accurate, but it showed that he missed me. And at least he didn't get all red up about it.
