Chicago Marathon dining

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon takes place Sunday, and as always, Chicago's restaurants are ready to provide pre-, post- and midrace meal deals and vantage points.

O'Brien's Restaurant & Bar. The racers scoot right past the front door (and umbrella-topped outdoor tables) on race day, so you'll want to get here early. To that end, O'Brien's will open its doors at 8 a.m., serving its a la carte brunch menu. If the weather cooperates, the outdoor tables will offer the best views. 1528 N. Wells St., 312-787-3131

Luxbar. The solution for Sunday brunchers who avoid downtown on marathon day, and people too busy running/cheering to enjoy brunch, Luxbar will present a Monday edition of its weekend a la carte brunch. Enjoy a leisurely Monday morning meal and toast Columbus Day while you're at it. 18 E. Bellevue Place, 312-642-3400

Two. Yamandu Perez, owner and manger of this West Town restaurant, is a runner himself, and offers this deal for marathon runners: Make an early (before 6:15 p.m.) reservation for Saturday, bring your race bib to the restaurant and get 20 percent off your entire bill. 1132 W. Park Grill. The Millennium Park restaurant will host an alfresco Chicago Marathon breakfast buffet and viewing party ($18) from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday. Dig into chef Bernie Laskowski's offerings while watching the race action on large monitors set about The Plaza at Millennium Park. 11 N. Michigan Ave., 312-521-7275.

Mercat a la Planxa. Jose Garces' Spanish restaurant is featuring a four-course "Dine and Dash" menu, $45, Friday through Sunday. And the restaurant's three-course Sunday brunch will be available 10 a.m.-3 p.m. 636 S. Michigan Ave., 312-765-0524.

Chicago Firehouse Restaurant. This South Loop restaurant sits about 700 yards from the finish line; the runners go past the Firehouse and across-the-street sibling City Tavern (1416 S. Michigan Ave., 312-663-1278) as they head north on Michigan. Both restaurants will be serving their Sunday brunch menus, along with activities and balloon artists for kids. The restaurants also serve as semiofficial cheering sections for the Special Olympics runners, and will be in full throat when those athletes run by. 1401 S. Michigan Ave., 312-786-1401
