Closet Geek Book Club. (July 29, 2011)
Sometimes our book selection inspires field trips. Reading "Seabiscuit: An American Legend" by Laura Hillenbrand led us to Arlington Park, the Art Institute of Chicago beckoned after "The Time Traveler's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger, and December in Long Grove was perfect while reading Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol."
We really enjoyed "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley. The story line was very entertaining and far different than we expected.
Only once have we not finished a book. "The Dark Side of Camelot" by Seymour M. Hersh took the Kennedy's family saga and ground it to a halt with a zeal for far too much documentation that made us wave the white flag.
Some of our favorite titles: "Galapagos" by Kurt Vonnegut, "A Streetcar Named Desire" by Tennessee Williams, The "Harry Potter" series by J.K. Rowling and "Last Days of Summer" by Steve Kluger.
Our next two books are "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak and "A Walk In the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail" by Bill Bryson.
