Monkey's Paw book club (HANDOUT / February 15, 2012)
We have been meeting monthly in coffee shops on the city's North and South Sides for about four years.
One thing to know about us: We are very misanthropic bibliophiles.
One favorite book: "Tree of Smoke" by Denis Johnson. We found it to be very well-written, and vague and chaotic much like the Vietnam era it describes.
We did not like "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" by Mark Twain because it was so dry it hurt.
Four books we loved: "Lush Life" by Richard Price, "Blood Meridian" by Cormac McCarthy, "Let the Right One In" by John Ajvide Lindqvist and "Oracle Night" by Paul Auster.
We are currently reading "American Tabloid" by James Ellroy.
