Katie Sotor and the Elmhurst book club (January 7, 2011)
Authors we'd most like to meet: Jane Smiley, Lee Smith, Kazuo Ishiguro, Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters.
Worst reason anyone has given for not reading an assigned book: "Reading makes me fall asleep."
Average time we spend talking about a book before the conversation swerves off into politics and family issues: We spend about an hour talking about the book and then start discussing topics in our lives that relate to the book. The person who hosts the discussion generally has a lot of material on the book. That keeps our conversation on track.
Five books we loved: "Crossing to Safety" by Wallace Stegner, "Fair and Tender Ladies" by Lee Smith, "The Remains of the Day" by Kazuo Ishiguro, "Sister Carrie" by Theodore Dreiser and "The Poisonwood Bible" by Barbara Kingsolver.
Next book: "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte
