Thirty-three of the 53 players on the active roster (62.2%) were either draftees of the Bears or undrafted free agents signed with the Bears. Seventeen players joined the team via free agency, and three (R.W. McQuarters, Bryan Johnson and Adewale Ogunleye) were acquired by trade.
Jerry Azumah, CB: 5th-round pick (147th overall) in 1999 draft.
Bernard Berrian, WR: 3rd-round pick (78th overall) in 2004 draft.
Alfonso Boone, DT: Acquired as a waived free agent in 2000. Originally drafted in the 7th round (253rd overall), next-to-last by the Detroit Lions in 2000, just ahead of teammate Mike Green. Signed with the Bears at the end of the 2000 season after spending most of it on the Lions' practice squad.
Lance Briggs, LB: 3rd-round pick (68th overall) in 2003 draft.
Alex Brown, DE: 4th-round pick (104th overall) in 2002 draft.
Mike Brown, FS: 2nd-round pick (39th overall) in 2000 draft.
Ruben Brown, G: Signed as free agent on April 2, 2004. Originally drafted in first round (14th overall) by Buffalo in 1995 draft; he played there until he was waived on March 1, 2004.
Desmond Clark, TE: Acquired as an unrestricted free agent in 2003. Originally drafted in the 6th round (179th overall) by the Denver Broncos in 1999, the Bears are his third team.
Paul Edinger, K: 6th-round pick (174th overall) in 2000 draft.
Steve Edwards, T: Acquired as a waived free agent in 2002. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2002, he was claimed by the Bears off of the Eagles practice squad.
Justin Gage, WR: 5th-round pick (143rd overall) in 2003 draft.
Mike Gandy, G: 3rd-round pick (68th overall) in 2001 draft.
Aaron Gibson, T: Acquired as a waived free agent in 2002. Originally drafted in the 1st round (27th overall) by the Detroit Lions in 1999, the Bears are his third team, and the first that doesn't wear silver and blue.
John Gilmore, TE: Acquired as a waived free agent in 2002. Originally drafted in the 6th round (196th overall) by the New Orleans Saints in 2002, he picked up with the Bears after being cut by the Saints at the end of training camp.
Bobby Gray, SS: 5th-round pick (140th overall) in 2002 draft.
Mike Green, SS: 7th-round pick (254th overall), "Mr. Irrelevant" in the 2000 draft, just behind teammate Alfonso Boone.
