Seminole's longest-serving sheriff reveals retirement

Don Eslinger, the longest-serving sheriff in Seminole County's history, announced his retirement Wednesday, setting the stage for a rarity in Central Florida politics: an open race for the county's top law-enforcement post. Eslinger, a Republican in a GOP-dominated county, said he will not run for re-election next year. He also endorsed the candidacy of his chief deputy, Dennis Lemma, a Republican from Oviedo.
