The nation's top trucking safety officials made a stop in Indiana Friday for a closer look at a pair of new technologies which could make our roads safer.

One allows inspection station operators to quickly scan a semi's license plate, alerting them about any previous infractions involving that particular truck.

The other technology allows drivers with safe records to bypass certain weigh stations.

The Department of Transportation said the two options could prevent as many as 21,000 accidents a year, nationwide.
