1. Old Crow Medicine Show Plays The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester This Friday

In 1973, during demo recording sessions for the soundtrack album Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, Bob Dylan wrote a chorus for a partially-written song that was referred to as "Rock Me Mama." While still in high school, Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show wrote some verses to go along with the chorus without thinking about it too much. The band recorded it for their 2004 album O.C.M.S., and it has since taken on a life of its own, an odd co-write between Bob Dylan and some 17-year-old kid who didn't know that he's not supposed to write lyrics to a Bob Dylan song. Now that kid is all grown up, and still playing the tune which has become something of a standard in the Americana circuit. Old Crow Medicine Show will be at the Capitol Theatre this Friday night.

  3. Setting Times' stories to music: Dusty Springfield, Bob Dylan

Some people wonder if I can really work with music blaring on my headphones--especially music with distracting lyrics. But my brain is hard-wired a different way: The lyrics inspire me, and help the creativity kick in.

  13. It's still music to Dan Wallin's ears

Just before noon on a clear fall day, the Newman stage on the 20th Century Fox lot is alive with bright lights, hovering microphones and a full 105-piece orchestra. It's one of the final scoring sessions for "Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol," and director Brad Bird and composer Michael Giacchino are listening closely to the music when a man with a snow-white ponytail and baseball cap leans over to whisper in Giacchino's ear. The composer nods and asks the conductor, Tim Simonec, to take it from the top, with a shade less emphasis on the piano.
