Special police force may soon patrol local schools

Orange County Public Schools is moving closer to hiring police officers who will serve the school district, and have full law enforcement powers. “There is a wide array of procedures that will come under this policy,” said Doug Tripp, OCPS’s senior director of safety and security. “Our police officers will exercise the power to make arrests for violations of law on property owned and operated by the (school) board.” On June 18, OCPS officials gave a presentation on the developing policy to the Orange County School Board, which met in the auditorium at Edgewater High School.
