'Social Emotional Learning' To Start In All Manchester Elementary Schools

Disruptive behavior among the town's youngest students — kindergartners and first-graders who were kicking, crying and yelling in class — was one of the first big problems he confronted as the school district's new leader two years ago, Superintendent Matt Geary said.

Geary, who had been a high school principal and had limited experience with elementary students, wanted to know whether any approach in the district was working. He said he found a promising solution in lessons that school social worker Christa Perkins was teaching to special education students.
