Anne Arundel County jails require polygraph testing and extended training for correctional officers to help prevent the kind of alleged corruption and gang activity that has 13 Baltimore City jail employees facing federal charges. The county's jails exceed state requirements for the screening, hiring and training of correctional officers, said Terry Kokolis, the department's superintendent. Kokolis spoke about the county's strategies in the wake of an April indictment alleging corruption and widespread gang activity at the state-run Baltimore City Detention Center.
