An argument between two men about a birthday cake escalated into a fatal stabbing in a rooming house Monday night, according to police reports and a witness.
Carlos Gonzalez-Oliver, 41, faces a murder charge and is being held in lieu of $1 million bond. Police have not released the name of the victim.
At the arraignment Tuesday afternoon in Superior Court, the bail commissioner said Gonzalez-Oliver had a record of more than 20 criminal convictions in the past 21 years, including a narcotics possession charge in 2015.
Gonzalez-Oliver admitted stabbing the other man to death a little before 9 p.m. and then driving to a motel in Wethersfield, according to police reports....
