Rod Blagojevich was found guilty of trying to sell President Barack Obama’s former Senate seat, and now a discount airline hopes to cash in on the former Illinois governor’s sweeping convictions Monday in his federal corruption retrial.
Spirit Airlines sent an email ad Tuesday for one-way fares as low as $17, borrowing from Blagojevich’s now infamous line: “We got these fares and they’re f-ing golden.”
The deal, open only to members of the Spirit Airlines Fare Club, must be booked by 10:59 CDT Wednesday, is based on roundtrip purchase, and is subject to additional taxes, fees and baggage charges.
A federal jury found Blagojevich guilty Monday of 17 of the 20 counts against him, acquitting him of one and failing to reach verdicts on the final two.
Spirit Airlines launched a similar ad campaign earlier this month in the wake of former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner’s sexting scandal. Those ads touted a “big sale” with language drenched in double entendre involving Weiner’s name and a certain body part at the center of the scandal.
