A man was shot to death in a parking lot in Zion, according to police.

Police said they responded about 4:35 p.m. Thursday to a 911 call for shots fired in the Aldi store parking lot in the 2800 block of Sheridan Road.

Police found “a single deceased adult male gunshot victim in the front seat of a vehicle on the lot,” a police statement said.

The dead man was identified Friday as Mutassem A. Abdelaziz, 23, of Waukegan, according to Lake County Coroner Thomas Rudd.

He died of a single gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, Rudd said.

The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force was assisting the Zion Police Department in the investigation.
