The veteran suffered an upper-body injury during the Hawks' 4-3 shootout victory over the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday night and Carcillo didn't practice Thursday and was not on the ice for Friday's morning skate at the United Center.
Coach Joel Quenneville said the injury was not serious but Carcillo would not play against the Ducks. Rookie Ben Smith, who was recalled from Rockford of the American Hockey League on Thursday, could replace Carcillo in the lineup against Anaheim. Moving John Scott from defense to wing on the fourth line is also an option.
The Hawks will be looking for their third victory over the Ducks this season and will have Ray Emery in goal. The veteran, who played for the Ducks last season, will make his fourth consecutive start for the Hawks. Emery is 0-0-1 in his career against Anaheim.
