Chicago Real Estate Daily is reporting: Deerfield-based Walgreen Co. is taking over the space at 150 S. Michigan Ave., across from Art Institute of Chicago that, until recently, housed Chicago's last Bennigan's restaurant. Walgreen is leasing 14,000 square feet of retail space in the office building. The Bennigan's covered about 8,000 square feet.

The restaurant chain’s chief financial officer, Scott Arnold, said in October that the Bennigan's was closing because the lease had expired and the building’s owners shopped the property to other potential tenants in an attempt to get more rent. Arnold said a new tenant had agreed to pay "about double" what Bennigan's is paying, but wouldn’t give that figure.

The Bennigan’s had been at that location for more than two decades.
