Train derailment temporarily blocks Franklin Park intersection

A Canadian Pacific Railroad freight car had to be moved after several of its wheels came off the tracks leaving the car blocking an intersection in west suburban Franklin Park, officials said.

The incident happened at about 4 p.m. today when crews were moving the train car near its freight yard and three wheels from the car came off the track, said Canadian Pacific Railroad Spokesman Ed Greenberg.

By 5:45 p.m., the car was moved and the intersection of Ruby and Scott streets in the west suburb was reopened, said Greenberg.

No injuries were reported and the incident only affected a single train car which remained upright, said Greenberg. The car was carrying non-hazardous materials, Greenberg said.

Emergency and train officials eventually were able to get the wheels back on the tracks and get the train moved, Greenberg said.
