Naperville police have charged a motorist with having drugs in his system when he allegedly struck and killed a woman bicyclist last fall, according to a statement released Thursday.
Police said that as a result of their investigation, Joshua Spuhler, 36, of Aurora, was charged this week with aggravated driving under the influence of a controlled substance. Spuhler reportedly turned himself in to authorities Tuesday and was released after posting bond.
According to police, Spuhler was going east on Diehl Road near Freedom Drive in a 2006 Nissan Titan on Sept. 25 when he struck Shwuwei Yeh, 56, of Naperville, who was attempting to cross the road on her bicycle. She was transported to Edward Hospital, but died from her injuries.
A news release issued by police did not specify what controlled substance was allegedly in Spuhler’s system at the time of the accident, and police did not immediately return a phone call seeking additional information.
Spuhler will appear Feb. 10 in DuPage County court.
