An SUV was going the wrong way on a southwest suburban road early today when it hit a car head-on, killing an Orland Park man, police said.
John Anagnopolous, 64, died following the crash at 105th Street and La Grange Road near Palos Park, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
The victim was killed about 3:10 a.m. when a 2002 GMC Denali going south in the northbound lanes of La Grange Road hit the 2002 Nissan Sentra the victim was driving, said Sophia Ansira, a spokeswoman for the Cook County sheriff's office.
Both drivers were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Ansira said. Anagnopoulos, of the 15400 block of Sunset Ridge Drive in Orland Park, was declared dead at 5:45 a.m. at the medical examiner's office.
The other driver, a 19-year-old man, was still hospitalized this afternoon as police investigators continued to work at the scene of the crash, with some lanes of La Grange Road still closed about 3 p.m., Ansira said.
Ansira did not immediately have any information on citations being issued in the crash.
