Two Arlington Heights men who robbed a Rolling Meadows gas station last year and were caught after they cashed stolen lottery tickets were sentenced in Cook County Circuit Court this week to 12 years in prison, authorities said today.
Randy Flowers, 24, and Karl Watson, 36, both of the 4300 block of Bonhill Drive, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Rolling Meadows branch court to the armed robbery of the Mobil Express at 2101 Hicks Road in April, 2012.
Prosecutors said the two entered the store and pistol-whipped the clerk before fleeing with $56 in cash and $1,800 in lottery tickets. The clerk was not seriously hurt.
The two were tracked by investigators after they cashed in some of the instant Lottery tickets they had taken, prosecutors said.
They have been in custody since their arrest on April 23, 2012. Each will have to serve 85 percent of the sentence under Illinois statutes.
