An investigation is under way after the death of a 17-year-old boy who suffered a gunshot wound while in an apartment in south suburban Calumet City Saturday night.
Tyshaun McClurg, 17, of the 17300 block of Wausau Avenue in South Holland, was pronounced dead at 9:15 p.m at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
McClurg was shot in the 0-100 block of Oglesby Avenue, according to the medical examiner's office.
Police responded to a call of shots fired at 9:03 p.m. and found the victim inside a bedroom of an apartment at the Oglesby address, said Calumet City police Capt. Dan Zorzi.
Zorzi said it was not clear how or why the boy was shot and said it remained under investigation.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday that will determine the cause and manner of death, according to the medical examiner's office.
Other people were inside the apartment at the time and the group was preparing to go out for the evening when the shooting happened, Zorzi said.
The others are considered witnesses and they are cooperating with authorities and still being interviewed Sunday night, Zorzi said.
No charges have been filed.
