A 23-year-old man was hit in the back and taken in serious condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, according to Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
Two other men, 22 and 31, suffered gunshot wounds to the leg and were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and Holy Cross Hospital, Alfaro said.
An hour after the shooting, yellow evidence markers sat on the sidewalk in front of the First Mennonite Church on the corner of 73rd and South Laflin Street.
Police had cordoned off the church and a home several houses to the east with crime scene tape.
Last March on the same block, 16-year-old Cedric Bell was shot to death in the middle of the afternoon. Neighbors gathered across Laflin from the church said they were outraged at the continuing violence in the neighborhood.
"It's crazy out here," said a woman named Keyera, who declined to give her last name. "This violence needs to stop. It's too stupid.
"I don't even know what to say. This is sad.”

The 41-year-old man suffered two gunshot wounds to the thigh and one to the leg, Alfaro said. He was taken to Stroger, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
On the Northwest Side, a 20-year-old woman was shot in the 4200 block of North California Avenue about 10:15 p.m., police said. The woman was standing on the sidewalk when shots were fired from a passing dark-colored vehicle, which then fled the scene, police said.
The woman was struck in the lower leg and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was listed in good condition, Alfaro said.
