Prosecutors say Marquis Anderson, 22, had just met the four earlier in the day on Feb. 11. After hours of drinking, they led him to an alley in the 5000 block of West Ohio Street and beat and robbed him, according to prosecutors. They decided to stab him to death because he knew where one of the attackers lived, prosecutors said.
Charged with murder and armed robbery are Ashauntiara Cody, 21, of the 5000 block of West Ohio Street and her brother, Victor Wilson, 24, of the 4800 block of West Creekview Road in Rockford; Deandre Davenport, 20, of the 7800 block of South Vernon Avenue; and Carlisle Lopez, 17, of the 5200 block of West Race Avenue.
Officers discovered Anderson around 11:20 p.m. He had suffered several stab wounds to his body, chest and throat. His face was bruised and his jean pockets were pulled out, according to a court document. Silver blades and black knife handles were found near the body, prosecutors said.
Cody admitted to someone else that she and her brother were involved in the attack, prosecutors said. Police executed a search warrant at her mother's home and found steak knives similar to the ones found at the scene, prosecutors said. Cody and Wilson were both arrested, then Davenport and Lopez, prosecutors said.
Earlier that day, Anderson had been drinking with Cody, Wilson and Davenport, even though he had just met the three. He had $250 and bought the liquor and marijuana, prosecutors said.
Later that night, Lopez joined the group and the four decided to rob Anderson. The group went to Cody's and Wilson's mother's house and took Anderson into an alley, prosecutors said.
The four beat him with their feet and fists, then went through his pockets and took all his money, prosecutors said. Wilson told the group they had to kill Anderson because he knew where his sister lived. Cody gave her brother a knife from their mother's house and he stabbed Anderson several times and left him to die, prosecutors said.
The group went back into the mother's home, and Davenport gave the money he took to Cody, who used it to get her nails done and then went to a beauty salon to replace the hair Anderson pulled out her head during the attack, prosecutors said.
Wilson was previously convicted of aggravated battery to an officer and Lopez has a juvenile record.
Cody, Davenport and Lopez were ordered held on $500,000 bail, while Wilson was ordered held without bail.
