Interstate 88 was reopened this evening after being shut for several hours this afternoon for a more-than 14 mile stretch while State Police investigated a four-vehicle accident with serious injuries.
Three people were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries after an eastbound minivan hit a "commercial vehicle" causing two other vehicles to crash, police said.
The tollway was closed in both directions between Illinois 47 and Peace Road in DeKalb County for the crash near the 104-mile marker, an Illinois State Trooper said. It was reopened except for one lane on the eastbound side by 6:30 p.m.
State Police were called for the crash, which involves “serious” injuries, about 3:40 p.m., State Police said.
