Drivers v. bicyclists. It's not supposed to be a competition, or worse yet, a war.
But frequently on the streets of Chicago, violations of traffic laws and common courtesy lead to unpleasant, even dangerous clashes between motorists and bicyclists.
At Thursday's Chicago Live!, a weekly stage and radio show presented at the Chicago Theatre Downstairs, Tribune transportation reporter Jon Hilkevitch, Ethan Spotts of the Active Transportation Alliance and Brian Steele of the Chicago Department of Transportation will discuss what changes are needed for drivers and bicyclists to get along better and share the road.
Also on the show: You may have noticed in an earlier Trib Nation post that Mayor Rahm Emanuel will be there at the beginning of the show to talk with host Rick Kogan. Trib Nation will liveblog that part of the conversation and the highlights to follow.
And Old town School of Folk Music's Chris Walz will be performing, as well.
If you've ever attended the Tribune's Songs of Good Cheer holiday sing-along program with the Old Town School, Chris has regularly led the performance of Mary Schmich’s “Gonna Sing." Here's a video of that song from the Songs of Good Cheer Facebook site.
Our colleague (and tenor) Eric Zorn also made a note of it on his blog. And he and Mary will be there tomorrow night.
