The FBI today issued a federal warrant for the man accused of murdering his new bride in Burbank last weekend, authorities said.
Arnoldo Jimenez is wanted on charges that he killed Estrella Carrera, the woman he had been married to less than 48 hours.
According to the federal warrant, Jimenez used his cell phone on May 12 in the Chicago area.
He continued using it through southern Illinois, near Memphis, Tenn., through Arkansas and then into Texas.
“The last location to which the telephone was tracked was in Hidalgo, Texas, near the Mexican border at 10:45 p.m. on May 13,” according to the warrant.
The warrant also reinforces information Carrera’s family told the Tribune about an emotional call Jimenez made to his own sister.
“On May 13, 2012, Jimenez spoke with his sister by telephone, telling her he and Carrera had a bad fight and he left her bleeding,” according to the warrant. Another “close associate of Jimenez” told authorities that Jimenez told him “he was leaving the state of Illinois and if questioned by law enforcement, the associate should tell law enforcement he went to Mexico.”
Jimenez was born in Texas and owns property there, according to the warrant. His parents reside in Mexico, though the warrant doesn’t specify where in the country they live.
Burbank Police Capt. Joe Ford said authorities have received more than 300 tips regarding the case, which has garnered national attention. The tips mostly have been car sightings, police said, with Jimenez last seen driving a black Maserati sedan.
Jimenez and Carrera were married last Friday. They celebrated into the wee hours of Saturday morning with friends and family at a Little Village restaurant, a party limo and a night club, police and family said.
On Sunday Carrera, 26, was found stabbed to death in a bathtub in her Burbank apartment. She was still wearing the sequined dress she had worn to celebrate her nuptials.
On Tuesday, a Cook County warrant was issued for Jimenez, 30, of the 4200 block of South Mozart Street in Chicago. He is charged with first-degree murder.
