Barnes & Noble customers were forced to leave briefly this afternoon while police investigated a report of a suspicious package outside the bookstore in the Lincoln Park community this afternoon.

Police News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic said police responded about 12:15 p.m. to a report of a suspicious object found in the 2200 block of North Clyborn Avenue.  Sedevic said no injuries were reported but had no further details.

The location is a busy intersection with stores, restaurants and movie theaters.

A Barnes & Noble manager said police directed staffers to tell customers they must leave the store, at 1441 W. Webster Ave., but as of about 1:45 p.m. they were allowed to open back up for business.

“We were told to evacuate the store,’’ according to the manager, who added police did not say why. “Nothing happened and we are reopened for business.’’
