Police block West Loop street as objects thrown from balcony

Police blocked a West Loop Street near the Ogilvie Transportation Center this evening when a resident began throwing objects from a high-rise balcony.

Police were called to the 100 block of North Canal Street about 5:15 p.m. following a report of a disturbance, said Chicago Police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti.

Although there were some reports the man may have been threatening to jump, he had instead been having a bad reaction to medical treatment, police said. When officers arrived, they found that the man was throwing objects off a high-rise balcony, Ursitti said.

Officers blocked Canal south of Lake street until the situation was resolved without injury by about 6:30 p.m. The man was taken to an area hospital for observation.
