A man was struck and killed by a Metra Southwest Service train Thursday evening near Chicago Ridge, officials said.

The Oak Lawn man, age 23, was struck near 10000 Meade Avenue in Oak Lawn, and declared dead on the scene at 6:56 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The train involved was stopped in Chicago Ridge after the person was struck about 7 p.m., just before the train was to arrive at the Chicago Ridge station, said Metra spokesman Tom Miller.

Other trains were stopped and unable to pass the train, which was stopped north of the station, which is at 103rd Street and Ridgeland Avenue.

The medical examiner's office determ9ined following an autopsy Friday that the man committed suicide.
