A male pedestrian was struck and killed by a Metra train  on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe line in  Naperville Friday evening, officials said.

The accident happened at 6:30 p.m. at Colombia Street, just east of the the Naperville station, said Michael Gillis, a Metra spokesman.

The train, No. 1279, was on the BNSF line and had left downtown Chicago at 5:49 p.m.. It was due in Aurora at 6:40 p.m., Gillis said.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, but as of this morning has not been identifed, according to the DuPage County Coroner's office.
