A Lake County man has been has been arrested and charged with disseminating child pornography, police announced today.

Billy J. Collins, of the 3600 block of Washington Avenue in Great Lakes, has been charged with multiple felony counts of disseminating, soliciting and possessing child pornography, according to Lake County authorities. 

Collins, 33, is an enlisted member of the U.S. Navy, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff’s office.

Collins was arrested Monday after a forensic examination of media devices found in his home "revealed an extensive amount of images identified as child pornography," according to the press release.

Investigators said they also learned that Collins was using the mobile cellphone application "Kik" to pose as a 14-year-old girl to communicate with female children, the release said. 

According to authorities, Collins admitted that he used the application to get “nude images of the children he believed he was communicating with,” authorities said.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Cybercrimes Unit with assistance from cyber investigators of the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office began its investigation in May, according to the release. This investigation lead to the issuance of the search warrant of Collins’ home. The Navy Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) assisted in the investigation.

Collins’ bond was set at $250,000.00.  He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
