The shooting occurred in the 5900 block of South Wood Street, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
An EMS Plan I, which automatically sends at least five ambulances to the scene, was called about 7 p.m. and secured about ten minutes later, according to the Fire Department.
One 23-year-old man shot in the torso or abdomen was taken in serious-to-critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, while a 20-year-old man was taken in fair-to-serious condition to Holy Cross Hospital, according to the Fire Department and police.
The condition of the victim at Holy Cross had stabilized, according to the Fire Department.
A third person, 15, walked into Holy Cross Hospital with a wound to his leg.
Chicago Fire Department Chief Juan Hernandez said two additional victims, both men, were shot during the incident but got to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County on their own. Their conditions were not known immediately, according to Hernandez. Police said they were never notified of additional victims.
Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien said preliminary police information indicated there were only three men shot, two of whom were in their 20s and taken via ambulance to Stroger and a third who "self transported" to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the lower leg.
