Metra trains were running on normal schedules this morning on the Milwaukee West Line, a day after a semi pulling a trailer of cars was struck by an inbound train at a crossing in Bartlett.

At least one train car was derailed, but the crossing was cleared overnight and Metra said "normal operations" were expected during the morning rush. Two passengers suffered minor injuries.

The accident happened around 3:35 p.m. Monday, sending cars flying off the trailer and striking cars in a Metra parking lot, police said. "We're really lucky no one was walking to their cars at the time," Bartlett Police Cmdr. Mike McGuigan said.

The wreckage blocked both inbound and outbound tracks for hours.

The investigation continued into the accident.
