Man shot in robbery attempt on South Side

A man was shot when he struggled with two would-be robbers in the Woodlawn neighborhood early this morning, police said.

The condition of the man, 25, was stabilized at the University of Chicago Medical Center following the attack in the 6600 block of South Ingleside Avenue, said Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan.

The man was walking with his girlfriend about 4 a.m. when two men or boys came up and announced a robbery, Sullivan said. The man struggled with the two attackers and was shot in the shoulder, Sullivan said.

Area detectives were investigating, but had no one in custody in the shooting.
