Devon McCauley, 22, is charged with murder and was ordered held without bail in a hearing midday Sunday.
McCauley, of the 1200 block of West 14th Street, was arrested after being identified as the gunman who shot and killed 17-year-old Ronald Hayes on Feb. 9 about 4:15 p.m. in the 1300 block of West Hastings Street, police said.
Hayes was shot in the head, according to Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien.
Officers found Hayes outside an apartment complex just a few blocks from where he grew up and lived with his mother on West Washburne Avenue.
“He was a good kid,” his mother Kathy Booker said in an interview at the time after she returned home from seeing her son's body at the scene of the shooting. The Banner Academy West High School student “was very cheerful, joyful, playful. He loved to play with his brothers.”
