A 42-year-old Lynwood man was charged with DUI after he called State Police this morning to say he was out of gas and lost -- and admitted he was drunk.
A police dispatcher tried to get more information but Dante Owens, 42, said he could not remember where he was driving from or where he was trying to go, according to a release from the ISP.
Officers traced the man's cell phone to Illinois Route 17 and 7000 West Road in Kankakee County, north of Momence, and found Owens sitting in his stalled car with the keys still in the ignition.
Owens, who said he was driving by himself, failed standard field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for Driving Under the
Influence, police said. He was taken to the Kankakee County Jail.
