A Chicago man was issued citations for drunk driving after a passenger in his car was killed when he lost control of his car and crashed in to several parked cars in Austin on Saturday, Chicago police said today.
The accident happened at about 5 a.m. on the 1600 block of North Laramie Avenue which resulted in the death of Claudio Cardenas, 34, officials said.
Cardenas was a rear-seat passenger of the vehicle which was being driven by Claude Harris, 24, of the 1200 block of South Sawyer Avenue.
Harris was driving the car as Cardenas rolled down the rear window and began to vomit outside of the car as Harris drove, police said.
Harris lost control of his car when he looked back to check on Cardenas and sideswiped two parked cars as Cardenas was hanging out the window, police said. The accident caused Cardenas to suffer blunt head trauma, police said. Cardenas was pronounced dead about a half-hour after the accident.
Harris was not charged criminally but did receive traffic citations for driving under the influence, failure to keep in a lane, striking unattended vehicles and trying to pass another car on the left.
