The mayor of Rosemont offered free land to the Cubs' owner, Tom Ricketts, if he would bring his millions to Rosemont to build a brand new, state-of-the art stadium there.
I'd bet there are other burbs that would also gladly woo this kind of investment in their communities.
In such a new facility, Ricketts could enjoy all the advertising revenue he wants, could have unlimited night games and maybe even field a competitive team.
And I wouldn't worry about game attendance. I'd much rather drive to Rosemont, to a new, modern facility with adequate parking, than to have to negotiate driving/parking difficulties or use of public transportation from the suburbs to Wrigleyville. I'd bet many thousands of others in the burbs would agree.
Wrigley Field is a dinosaur, the rooftop owners are leaches and Mayor Rahm Emanuel is a little version of Napoleon. Ricketts should tell the whole Chicago/Wrigleyville crowd goodbye and take his money and team where they will be appreciated.
