Jerry Mitchell, currently in Chicago directing the out-of-town tryout of the musical "Kinky Boots," is the winner of the 2013 "Mr. Abbott" Award, an honor named after the late George Abbott and dispensed in honor of Mitchell's 30-year career, mostly as a choreographer but more recently as director as well.

The lifetime achivement award is awarded by the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers and thus is an honor bestowed by peers.
