Geneva's Ben Kanute won both the Olympic distance and sprint races at the Collegiate Triathlon Championships this weekend in Tempe, Arizona.
Kanute, 20, a sophomore at the University of Arizona, also had the fastest leg in the mixed team relay.
Former University of Illinois swimmer Michelle Mehnert of Champaign, who competes for the University of Colorado, won the women's Olympic distance race.
Geneva's Kevin McDowell was part of the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs quartet that won the mixed team relay.
Kanute, a two-time U.S. junior champion, won the sprint race by 14 seconds and the Olympic distance race by 32 seconds.
More than 1,000 athletes from 108 schools competed in the longer (Olympic) race. There were 595 men's finishers and 406 women's finishers.
