The Illinois Supreme Court has appointed former Chicago Ald. Freddrenna Lyle as a Cook County Circuit Court judge to fill a vacancy.
Lyle, the former 6th Ward alderman, will serve until next year’s elections determine a replacement for Judge Michael Stuttley, who retired earlier this year.
Lyle, 60, was an alderman for 13 years until losing her re-election effort to Ald. Roderick Sawyer in April. She’s been serving as legal adviser to the City Council Black Caucus on the ward remap effort, a position she will give up in the next week or so.
“I am proud to serve the community in a new area, and it keeps my intellectual juices flowing,” Lyle said of her appointment, adding that she does not plan to run in the March primary for judge but would consider filling another vacancy if one opened up.
