HALFTIME

4A: Rochester 35, Rock Island Alleman 18

Rochester is two quarters away from its third straight Class 4A state championship. The Rockets scored a touchdown on five of their six first-half drives, including on their first three possessions.  Rochester senior quarterback Austin Green, who committed to Eastern Illinois, threw for 148 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns in the first two quarters.

Sean Wetherell, Adam Hoogerwerf and John Tracey all scored touchdowns for Alleman. The Rockets outgained the Pioneers 322-199 in total offense in the first half. Alleman had just nine yards passing.

3A: Aurora Christian 14, Tolono Unity 12

Aurora Christian’s offense took some time to warm up Friday.

The Eagles lost two fumbles, ended two drives on downs in the first half and had just 45 yards of offense during their first five drives.

The defending Class 3A champions finally got their offense in gear right before halftime.

Down 12-0, Aurora Christian scored two second-quarter touchdowns to take a halftime lead.

Brandon Mayes had a 16-yard touchdown run up the middle to cut the deficit to 12-7. Mayes’ 70-yard kickoff return set up Aurora Christian’s touchdown.

On their sixth drive, the Eagles compiled a 64-yard scoring drive capped by Cory Windle’s 28-yard touchdown catch from Ryan McQuade.

Tolono Unity scored a touchdown on each of its first two possessions. Mitch Negangard had scoring runs of 18 and 1 yards for the Rockets, who had 95 total yards in the first half.
